Who would have ever guessed Amber looked so good with Turquoise! I made a few gifts for a friend back home. I will hopefully be sending them out today.Feeling 85% today, which is good. Only had one glass of wine last night instead of 3/4 of the bottle. Not good to do when sick. Another rainy day in the desert...........

Very very cool use of the amber, turqoise and scarab! You must be right-brain dominant. Your lost wax casting stuff is awesome also. Keep up the good work. Many years ago I did some turquoise and silver work, but got away from it.

ReplyDeleteThat became the issue- finding nice turquoise... not all of us are lucky enough to live in AZ!! Most of the stuff available was pressure-treated and/or dyed. Maybe it's gotten easier to find the real thing?? I just did it as a hobby, and gave the stuff away. Strictly silver-soldered bracelets, rings, pendants, that kind of stuff. I think I still have two old books lying around somewhere- Indian Silversmithing by W. Ben Hunt (1952) and Indian Silver -Navajo and Pueblo Jewelers (Margey Bedinger), 1973. The Hunt book is a gem- still splotched with flux stains. I think I stole both of them back in the early seventies.. :O You can have 'em if interested..

I don't know how to do soldering (sp?) I've been eyeing a class at the Mesa Center for the Arts but they are kinda pricey. HMPF!
