My friend Rachel's paintings.....I'm a lucky owner of one, but I wish I could buy ALL OF THEM!!They are so huge and rad. For more info you can email her at raybo79@hotmail.com or check out her band here
This is my other best friend Cindy. I've known her since 8th grade. We sat at the lunch table together and she wore these white braided bracelets around her wrists. I remember she would eat the crusts off of my sandwiches b-cuz I am a super picky eater... it was BFF all the way after that. We used to make my Dad drive us to the mall so we could walk around and try to meet boys, we'd go to all the cool punk shows in the Chicagoland area, I think we saw Jawbox and Shudder to Think more than anybody else. We'd take the train downtown and go to all the street festivals, go camping and go on all kinds of fun excursions. One night we met this crazy musician on the streets outside the Cabaret Metro named Johnny Polanski and went to his hotel room to party because we thought his friend was cute but Mr Polanski was a TOTAL freak and took all his clothes off and was jumping on the hotel bed with his gross penis flopping around-I snagged his sunglasses and we ran so fast and so far, it was pretty funny. I guess we were the naive ones in the long run.. Lesson 1-don't go to strange rockstar wannabe's hotel rooms.
I do think she's prob seen me puke more than anybody else from over drinking these past few weeks and BOY what a sloppy drunk I have been.. She's been taking good care of me and i'm lucky to have her here with me. I keep saying i'm not going to drink again but it just happens.. the drink just jumps into my hand and down my throat.. wicked i tell ya. So in my one bedroom apt I have Me, Cindy, her dog Henry, my dogs Atilla, Ruby and Chi Chi. I wish I had an extra bedroom for her so she didnt' have to sleep on my couch, then again neither of us have been able to sleep due to too much on our minds.
Last night Meg and Wez had extra tickets to see Eric Schlosser (Fast Food Nation author) speak at ASU Gammage and after that it was off to Casey Moores for a drink and then to Shady's to meet up with our neighbor. UGH I stayed up waaay too late. I did wake up in time for work tho and my co-worker got me a Jamba Juice for my B-day! YAY! Tonight I will NOT drink. Somehow I managed to hurt my arm. I can't extend it all the way, no clue how I did that. I have no idea how I am going to ride my bike to First Friday tonight...
Cindy and my neighbor at Shadys
An idea at the size of our dogs..and the size of my tiny kitchen.. Chi Chi isn't in the photo tho.. she's a chihuahua that likes to hump the cat.
My best friend Jazmine and her cute lil man are in the new Yogi Times! Her man bryan is the founder of Power Yoga and if you are in the greater Santa Monica/Venice, CA area you should DEF take one of his classes.
My garden is in full bloom... I can't believe how well it is doing. Hopefully everything sprouts before that devil of a summer arrives. Wicked, wicked thing it is. My friend Cindy, whom I have known since I was in the 8th grade, is in town visiting. She's been here for a little bit over a month and heads back to the woods of Idaho next week. Cindy helped me a lot with the garden. My neighbor got in the plant spirit also after seeing all of my crazy plants. It's so fun to watch plants start from a seed and then sprout to a full blown plant. It's even better when it brings food you can eat. There is just something about growing your own food that makes me smile.
My squash...looking good!
the wee lil baby squash
Tomatoes galore and a crazy artichoke..there's also rosemary but he's hidden
candy onions, garlic chives, tons of tomatoes and my poor green pepper plant on the far right
More squash
my Mother of Millions plant is OUT OF CONTROL!
I found that compost bin in the trash while in Venice!
Aloe, Oregano and Basil!
Matt and I re-did these old movie theatre seats..they came out pretty cool. The painting behind it is by the great Rachel Borchers..
I really dig old victorian mourning items. Check out this Vintage Victorian mourning hair brooch!!! There is actual human hair inside.. I guess they also used to make chains from human hair. In the pic below the brooch you'll see a pocketwatch chain made from human hair!
I love this ring.. so rad! Actual human hair inside... and below.. A cool old mourning pin
last but not least, I WANT THESE BOOTS! I guess they still go along on this theme since they are from a dead animal-like my stupid interent radio is going to be DEAD if it doesn't stop cutting in and out..grrrr..
A co-worker brought me a gift today. BOY what a gift it was. It's the LARGEST Lemon I have EVER seen.. If you know how big a NYLON magazine is then you can guess how big this baby is..
My friend Cindy and I took a road trip to L.A. this past weekend to visit my best friend and her cute lil babies. We also stopped at Joshua Tree but we didn't get to see much due to the fact that we went in the East entrance and not the West. I was good and wasn't a super consumer like I usually am in L.A. I steered clear of Melrose and only hit a few stores. Scored a cute blue polka dot tank at Aardvarks in Venice and the boy behind the counter even gave me a discount because he dug my outift/hat ;o)
We stopped at Palm Springs/Palm Desert to check out the town and hit up a few thriftshops. Didn't score anything good except a conversation with a shop owner who could tell by the way I was dressed that I was looking for vintage. He then went on to tell us how he was one of the original vintage vendors at the Rose Bowl Flea Market. My mouth was watering with all the stuff he said he used to sell. When we arrived in Venice we stopped by the Venice Beach Eco Cottages and Cynthia gave us a tour. They were SO nice and the Cottages are SO SO SO CUTE! If you ever need a place to stay be sure you stay there.
Jazmine, Brian, Cindy, the babies and I went to look at some NICE ass houses in the Pacific Palisades that overlooked the ocean. I can't believe how much property is in L.A. We hit Venice beach after that and walked around, got a pitcher of beer and headed back to pick up Jazmine. In the evening we had a girls night out at a nice Italian place on Main Street. We tried to hit up our old haunt the Red Garter but they totally GLAMORIZED it.. it's no longer a cool old dive bar.. SUCKED!
It was a nice time and i'm glad I got away. I wish the sun was warmer so we could have laid on the beach but there's always next time. I still can't believe how good I was at not shopping while there. I'm slowly cleaning out junk from my apartment and making progress with not buying TONS of clothes I do not need. Hopefully it will last.
